NY shop coordinator 

OVERVIEW:

Overall Murals is expanding and seeking a Shop Coordinator to oversee daily operations at our Paint Shop in Brooklyn, NY.  We are a Brooklyn based company specializing in hand-painted advertising murals and sign painting. We paint all over New York and the country. 

Position Summary:

The Shop Coordinator will work closely with our two Shop Assistants and will report to the Co-Owners of the company. They are responsible for maintaining the overall integrity and quality of the paint and production shop, production process (from prep to post), and production supplies. The Shop Coordinator provides supervision, support and coordination of pre and post production  activity taking place within the Overall Murals paint shop based in Brooklyn, sub shops in other major markets, and the work fields, nationwide. 

The person we seek is handy, thrives under pressure, well organized, excellent at multitasking, tech savvy, has a passion for the mural industry and is willing to learn new things. The Shop Coordinator is open to wearing multiple hats and doing everything from low level to high level tasks.

RESPONSIBILITiES​:

This position is responsible for supporting and managing the effective, on-time completion of daily activities required for the shop, in accordance with the project plan schedule and the company's policies and practices in a professional and positive manner. The Shop Coordinator will spend a majority of his or her time in the shop, however, since most of our work is outdoors, he or she will spend time in the field as well as needed to make sure projects are running smoothly and efficiently. This person will support conditions of each project from start to finish to ensure that projects are completed on-time and on-budget.

Production Support -This person will work closely with the production team and provide support to manage aspects of multiple painting projects simultaneously. This person will be calm under pressure and able to work with all kinds of personalities, in a deadline driven environment. The Shop Manager will be responsible for communicating with the operations and production team and owners regarding the shop (Brooklyn and other markets if required), shop activities and mural production (pre + post). 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Team Management

  • Assist in training, supervision of and evaluation of employees including Shop Assistant/s, Apprentices and Painters as required

  • Create systems for employee growth and development

  • Utilize Project Management, Graphic Editors, and other computer related apps and software (i.e. Trello, Google Drive Apps, Slack, Canva, and Microsoft Office) for team, project and shop management as required

  • Develop, maintain and implement training guides (i.e. SOPs, apprentice program) 

  • Lead by example as well as address employee disputes, questions, and concerns

  • Ensure staff adheres to safety standards, company policies, and procedures

  • Develop and assign staff work schedules as required and in collaboration with Operations

  • Oversee employees and ensure duties are completed up to standards in an efficient and timely manner

  • Maintain constant communication with staff, operations, owners, and other departments as needed

  • Contribute to maintaining a positive, professional, productive work environment for all employees and managers within the company

  • Bring problems and solutions to the attention of owners and other management as required

  • Advocate for company culture and quality standards and results

2. Shop Duties & Maintenance

  • Maintaining, replacing, upgrading, building and organizing the shop, work stations, equipment, materials, and vehicles across nationwide shops as required but mainly for our NY headquarters

  • Preparing, packing, and shipping materials for ongoing projects if required

  • Production Duties - As related to all mural preparation, production and post production

  • Inventory of supplies and vendor partner relationships - work with vendors and find best rates to keep the shop stocked with materials, equipment, lighting, and other services and all other supplies as required. 

  • Review and approve invoices for supplies ordered 

  • Organize and ensure projects are on track and adhering to the schedule

  • Ideating new projects 

  • Innovate, update, research and execute ideas to improve organization, efficiency and processes for mural production and the shop/office

3. Production - Doing and Delegating

  • General wall maintenance, preparation, upgrading and buildout of existing and new nationwide wall inventory as needed - set up of new locations, logistics and planning including rigging plans, lighting design, and measurements. 

  • Collaborate with other departments and/or shops to execute plans, unique paint strategies, and other client requirements

  • Drive the truck as needed 

  • Weekly graffiti maintenance routes

  • Pickups and deliveries

  • Buff or priming the walls

  • Set up scaffolding, and equipment, delivering lifts including swing stage (rigging)

  • Seek and set up new workshops as needed

  • Physically Fit - Able to stand for long durations of time and safely push, pull and lift up to 90 pounds frequently without assistance or equipment.

  • Reliable - Prompt, responsible, safety-oriented, genuine pride & pleasure in a job done well

  • Productive - Possesses a sense of urgency and works efficiently, quickly and with common sense

  • Organized and Detail Oriented - Enjoys planning and organizing. Can keep both a physical and digital workspace organized and up to date.

  • Team Player - Communicative, thick skinned, sturdy, and naturally inclined to support your teammates and all types of personalities that come with working with a hardcore team of painters. You don't take things personally and getting the job done in an efficient, smart manner is the goal. Big egos need not apply.

  • Management experience - Has managed and overseen a team of at least 5-10 people minimum. 

  • MUST have a valid NYS Driving License

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physically Fit - Able to stand for long durations of time (up to 4 hours) and safely push, pull and lift up to 90 pounds frequently without assistance or equipment

  • Reliable - prompt, responsible, safety-oriented, genuine pride & pleasure in work done well

  • Flexible Schedule - willing to work a variety of days/hours (including weekends), under tight deadlines/short notice 

  • Valid California Driver’s License - and ability to operate company vehicles including trucks and cargo vans, owning one's own vehicle is preferred

  • Willing to travel

  • Team Player - Communicative, thick skinned, sturdy, and naturally inclined to support your teammates and all types of personalities that come with working with a hardcore team of painters. You don't take things personally and getting the job done in an efficient, smart manner is the goal. Big egos need not apply.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mural industry experience - a minimum of 2 years experience in our field

  • Construction Skills - Experience in light carpentry, electric, construction, and use of hand & power tools

  • Technical - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, emailing capabilities and business systems

  • Ideally can ride an electric bike and is not afraid of heights

  • Rigging/Scaffolding experience/certification a plus

  • Trello or other Project Management Platform knowledge a plus

WORK CONDITIONS: (include but not limited to)

Required to occasionally work in high, precarious places using scaffolding, ladders, Scissor lifts or boom lifts or chairs. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to wet, and or humid conditions, extreme heat, vibration and inclement weather. Noise level in the work environment may be loud.
